What is CMYK? CMYK is the printing process that we use at our shop. CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and black (also called "Key"). All the colors that we print are created from various mixtures of these four colors. For this reason, a common term for CMYK printing is "four-color process." Have a Pantone color that must be used in your logo? Our color chart allows us to pick the best possible CMYK equivalent to your Pantone color.

Sign Tip of the Week #15: Vector files, what are they? Without getting into the nitty-gritty, vector is a very versatile format for your logo, and is typically the original format that a logo is created in. Their common tags are pdf, ai, and eps. With vector, your graphics can be blown up to any size without digital pixelation, colors can be changed, backgrounds removed (sick of that white background on your jpeg, anyone?), and shapes altered. Don't have your logo in vector? Not sure if it is or not? Send it over and we'll let you know if it is. If it isn't, we can see if your logo can be recreated into vector. We offer the service for a one-time $45 fee and then keep it on file for your future orders!

Sign Tip of the Week #12: When sending a jpeg to be printed for a sign, it is best to save and send the jpeg at a quality of 300dpi. This quality results in better resolution on the print. If the file is too large to e-mail at that quality, you can send it through our Send A File system by going to our website (www.fastsigns.com/104) and clicking on "Send A File." Can't obtain a 300 dpi file? A file of 100dpi at the size it would be on the sign is the recommended minimum. Aren't sure what you have? Send it over and we'll check it out before we make your signs!

Sign Tip of the Week #11: Heat helps to remove vinyl! Are you wanting to put new decals or lettering onto a window or vehicle but aren't sure how to remove the old vinyl easily? The best way is pull up a corner to get started. If it becomes difficult, a heat gun or blow dryer will make it easier! Whenever ordering a "No Trespassing" sign for the Albuquerque area, it is important to put the entire City Ordinance 12-2-3 on the sign as well. This ordinance posting is required should you need removal of trespassers by law enforcement. If this ordinance is not posted, police are unable to assist you. Looking for a "No Trespassing "sign? SIGN TIP OF THE WEEK #7: Bungee your banners! Banners are usually the first casualties when the spring winds come into New Mexico. A good way to help them withstand the tension is to hang them with bungee cords. Bungee cords provide the banner with a little give as the winds bear against it and may lengthen their hanging life.

Sign Tip of the Week #5

SIGN TIP OF THE WEEK #5: Do not fold your banner! Folding can cause permanent creases and create a weak spot on the material. Banners need proper care. In order to lengthen the life of your banner, it should be rolled up when not in use. To prevent the roll from flattening out (which can also cause creases) it should be stored standing up or wrapped around a tube. (You can use an old wrapping paper tube.) Never place anything on top of your stored banner. Taking care of your banner when not in use is one of the best ways to lengthen its life.

Sign Tip of the Week #4: TAKE CARE OF YOUR MAGNETS! While it seems easy to pull the magnets off of your vehicle and throw them in the trunk or back seat, this method of storage can be permanently damaging to your magnets. A hot vehicle can warp a magnet, causing the magnetic power of your sign to be reduced (and may cause the sign to fly off when back on the vehicle). A magnetic sign should be stored on a flat, even surface in room temperature when not being used on the vehicle. Never fold, crease, or place any heavy objects on top of them. Sign of Tip of the Week: FONT, KEEP IT SIMPLE! While we offer many typestyle options, it is important to keep information on your sign in a clean, simple, readable font. We typically use Helvetica Bold. This font has been proven to be the most readable, as reported by the United States Sign Council. While using multiple typestyles can enhance the look of your sign, keeping it to a few simple fonts is best.

Sign Tip of the Week: LESS IS MORE! Prospective customers only have a moment to read a sign in passing. Too much information tends to cause eyes to pass over a sign without retaining any information. Your sign should include the most important information to grab their attention and should also include a phone number. A customer can always call for additional information.

Benefit for Michael Malarsie

Michael Malarsie, a Bosque Farms native and a graduate of Los Lunas Highschool, was injured January 3, 2010 by an IED in Afghanistan. Due to injuries sustained he is permanently blind and has extensive neck and facial wounds from shrapnel.
